Perry is Perry is a Chicago native birthed to Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. One of her first TV appearances were Jackie Harris on ABC's sitcom Roseanne. Her mother portrayed the character. Fearing stress, her parents were not keen to let the actress pursue acting until she turned 18. Perry, who was too shy to be a part of the theater in her school, began to perform in theater classes at Northwestern University because she wanted to make new friends. Following her graduation, Perry moved to New York to search for TV work, landing a few roles in series like Law & Order: Criminal Intent but homesickness brought Perry back home to California which is where she discovered acting work. The Other Place was performed by her and her mother on Broadway in 2013. The show was directed by Eugene O'Neill. Pulitzer Prize winner Anna Christie, along with Kevin McKidd. This was staged at West Los Angeles' Odyssey Theatre Ensemble. In 2016, Perry appeared on nine episodes of ABC's thriller The Family. Her father portrayed her in The ABC show Scandal. The same year her character was cast the younger model of Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) on Young Sheldon, a spin-off of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory again as a teen character of her mom's. The role was given by audition regardless of the fact that she was a cousin with the character.
